#PassTheSketchnote 2022, an insider's experience by Kiki Xiraki-Tselios 01/16/2022

Updated: Jan 23, 2022

On January 2nd I was browsing through Twitter and I came across a moment of challenge. #PasstheSketchnote2022 @PTSketchNote. Carrie Baughcum and Monica Spillman pinned tweet was shared in the 'Twitter verse' calling on people from across the globe to sign up for the 'Pass the Sketchnote' day challenge that would begin on Tuesday, January 11, 2022 ( January 11 is World Sketchnote day).

The timeline

I received an email on Sunday, January 6 2022 with very thorough instructions explaining the rules and offering the hashtags #PassTheSketchnote #SNDay2022. I was impressed so far. Team YELLOW Team#10. Shannon Moore created a chat using Twitter DMs SNDay2022 TEAM YELLOW! Each day beginning Tuesday, January 11 2022 the sketch note would 'pass' to the next person. Purvi would introduce the inspiration for team yellow and Shannon would conclude.

We started chatting about what tools to use: Purvi Parekh use Buncee; Shannon Moore Adobe Fresco; Steve Silbert and Amy Banas Procreate. I remained silent because ... well... I had no idea, what tool to use.

I reached out to my friend and multi-dimensional artist Bobbi Beaker to ask her about some drawing apps for my daughter and I. Bobbi suggested Procreate and Adobe. I let the confusion turn to dust and disappear into the sunset. I decided to wait for inspiration choosing to believe that the right tool would find me.

On Tuesday, January 11 2022 Purvi from Mumbai India, started our sketching journey with "starts with bright day more sunshine and positive vibes" her Bitmoji holding 2022 balloons, a happy emoji, a bright sun, and sunflowers leading the way to a white arch.

Just like that, #PassTheSketchnote traveled to Steven in Florida, USA. Steve Silbert drew yellow paper planes that landed in Bright Green Florida. In Florida we find John "Lemon" singing yellow submarine. To finalize the sketch we notice a banana tree and a booming yellow spaceship launched to the moon.

It was Amy Banas's turn from Illinois, USA, to continue our artistic journey. Amy drew inspiration from the Bright Florida Green and constructed the City of Emeralds where the wizard of OZ resides. Of course, the road leading to Emerald City paved with Yellow Bricks.

As you might have guessed, our next stop is New York, USA, with Kiki Xiraki-Tselios, yours truly. The yellow brick road leads over the bridge, to Manhattan's NYC famous yellow taxi, driving past tall skyscrapers and the Statue of Liberty at nighttime under the shadow of a yellow cookie moon.

The final stop for #PassTheScketchnote is in California USA with Shannon Moore who concluded our creative journey. A portrait of all of us in the different shades of yellow that each individual selected for their creation. High in the sky is a closeup of the sun with a superimposed quote by Desmond Tutu "Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all the darkness". Shannon Moore wrapped it up by creating a video.

Thank you for the experience @PTSketchNote Carrie Baughcum, Monica Spillman. Additionally thanks for the wonderful spirit of collaboration and growth to the four wonderful creatives Purvi Parekh, Steve Silbert, Amy Banas, and Shannon Moore.

Thank you, Carrie, your wonderful words of positivity and support are heartwarming. I have been talking about Pass The Sketchnote #snday2022 during my #TwitterSpacesEDU and at Bobbi Bicker's #ArtistOnTwitter spaces to encourage creativity and art therapy. Let us keep in touch and maybe... create some sketchnotes before next year.
